Twitch VOD Downloader Chrome Extension

Use the Twitch VOD downloader Chrome extension with twitch-vod.download to download supported Twitch recordings from your desktop browser.

The extension assists with obtaining the Twitch video details and playlist information needed by the downloader. The website provides the download controls, including available quality, format, and trimming options.

Install Twitch VOD downloader from the Chrome Web Store

Already installed it? Open the Twitch downloader and refresh the page before trying your link again.

When do you need the extension?

The website's Twitch VOD workflow requires a companion extension. Use the desktop workflow when you want to save an available public recording or a selected section of it.

Supported public single clips use a separate direct-download path on the website and do not require the extension.

An extension cannot make an unavailable recording accessible, create a quality that Twitch does not provide, or grant permission to use someone else's content.

How to install the extension

  1. Open Twitch VOD downloader in the Chrome Web Store using desktop Chrome.
  2. Review the listing, its privacy disclosures, and the permissions Chrome requests.
  3. Select Add to Chrome and confirm the installation if you accept those permissions.
  4. Return to twitch-vod.download and refresh the page.
  5. Paste your Twitch VOD link and try the download again.

You can optionally pin the extension through Chrome's Extensions menu to make it easier to find. Pinning is a toolbar convenience, not a replacement for refreshing the downloader after installation.

If your browser is managed by a school or employer, installation may be restricted by its administrator.

How to download a Twitch VOD

  1. Open the recording on Twitch and copy its full URL. A typical VOD link contains /videos/ followed by a video ID.
  2. Open the Twitch VOD downloader and paste the link into the VOD or clip URL field.
  3. Select Download (Best Quality) to use the highest source quality available to the downloader, or choose Customize (Format, Quality, Trim) to review the options.
  4. Choose a save location when your browser prompts you.
  5. Keep the page open until the downloader reports that the output is ready.

Only download recordings you own or are authorized to save and use. A recording being publicly viewable does not automatically grant rights to republish it.

Quality, trimming, and output formats

These options are provided by the website's supported VOD workflow, rather than being separate guarantees about every link or the extension alone.

Choose an available source quality

The quality menu lists the variants exposed by the source. If a resolution is missing, the downloader cannot create it or upscale the original recording.

Download only the section you need

Use the trimming controls in Customize to select a start and end point instead of saving the entire recording. A shorter selection can reduce the amount of media to transfer and process.

Select MP4, TS, or MP3

  • MP4: The default video output for the VOD workflow.
  • TS: A transport-stream container option.
  • MP3: Audio output converted in the page after the selected media is downloaded.

Long recordings can require substantial disk space. Audio conversion also uses browser memory; try a shorter selection if conversion fails.

Browser and device requirements

This extension-assisted VOD workflow is intended for desktop Chrome. Chrome on Android and iPhone does not install desktop Chrome Web Store extensions in the same way.

Saving a supported public clip on mobile is a separate workflow. The save steps depend on the browser and operating system; it does not mean the desktop VOD workflow is available on every phone.

Before starting a long download:

  • Check that your device has enough free storage.
  • Allow file creation or saving when the browser asks.
  • Keep the download tab open.
  • Avoid closing the browser or putting the device to sleep while it is processing.

Troubleshooting

The website still asks me to install an extension

Confirm that the installation completed and that the extension is enabled in the Chrome profile you are currently using. Refresh the downloader tab after installation.

Review the extension's site-access settings if Chrome is preventing it from running where needed. Do not grant unrelated access just to dismiss an error.

If the site still does not recognize the extension, or its installation prompt points to a different listing, contact support so the extension and website compatibility can be checked.

Chrome will not let me install it

Make sure you are using desktop Chrome and opening the Chrome Web Store listing directly. Check whether browser-management policies prevent installation. For a managed device, ask its administrator rather than attempting to bypass the restriction.

My Twitch link is rejected

Copy the full link from the original Twitch page. For a VOD, check that it contains /videos/. Public clip links can contain /clip/ or use the clips.twitch.tv domain.

Open the original Twitch page to check whether the recording is still available before retrying.

A quality option is missing

Only source qualities available to the downloader can be listed. Selecting a different format does not increase the source resolution.

The downloaded video will not open or seek correctly

For a VOD, try the repair option in Customize before downloading again. You can also try the TS output if it suits your playback or editing software.

The extension does not guarantee that every media player supports every output.

MP3 conversion fails on a long VOD

Select a shorter section and retry. Conversion happens in the page and can require more memory than saving the video in MP4 or TS.

The recording was deleted or expired

The downloader cannot restore media that Twitch no longer makes available. Installing or reinstalling the extension does not change that.

Permissions and privacy

Review the permissions and privacy disclosures on the Chrome Web Store listing before installing.

The extension and website participate in an online workflow involving Twitch requests. Browser-based downloading does not mean that the website, service providers, or Twitch receive no request information.

The website and any paid-feature processing are separate from the extension's own store disclosures. Read the website privacy policy for information about the service.

Do not share Twitch passwords, browser cookies, payment details, or license activation links when asking for help.

Frequently asked questions

Does installing the extension start a download automatically?

Installing it is a setup step. Return to the website, refresh the page, and submit the link you want to download.

Do I need it for a public Twitch clip?

Not for the website's supported single-clip direct-download workflow. VODs use a different workflow that requires a companion extension.

Can I download just part of a recording?

Yes, the supported VOD workflow provides start and end controls in Customize. Availability still depends on the source recording and the browser workflow.

Does the extension unlock unavailable or restricted content?

This guide does not provide a way to bypass access controls. The extension does not grant access rights or recover deleted recordings.
